If you’ve followed Produce with Amy at all, you know how much we believe in growing roots. Not just for our own family, but for the wider community. And today, I’m bursting with pride and hope as I share a dream‑coming‑true story for our daughter Avalon.
Avalon has been accepted into the medical brigade program through Northern Michigan University’s Medical Brigade Club — part of Global Brigades. This program gives aspiring nurses and medical‑field students the chance to travel, learn, and give back, working alongside licensed medical professionals in communities in need. As a future nurse (and possibly one day a medical‑school student), this is the kind of experience that can shift everything: her perspective, her empathy, and her dedication to service. For Avalon, this isn’t just another résumé line. Service is in her blood. Since she was 15, she’s worked hard, balancing school and jobs, always with a servant’s heart (something she got from her dad). Now at 19, this opportunity feels like a calling and the next step in her journey.
But here’s the thing: participation in a medical brigade isn’t free. Instead, volunteers like Avalon fundraise a “Donation Goal.” Once that goal is met, the donation covers ground transportation, food, lodging, emergency insurance, and also supports the medical supplies, medications, local doctors and staff, translators, and the overall healthcare program in the community served. info.globalbrigades.org+2Medical Brigades+2
That’s why she’s launched a fundraiser. To help Avalon meet that Donation Goal. And why we’re reaching out to people who know her story or believe in what she stands for.
